The parent brand KEEN was founded in the United States in 2003 by Martin Keen and Rory Fuerst, and American Built is a line that began manufacturing in the United States in 2010. Developed primarily around work boots and safety shoes, it is based on a philosophy that emphasizes managing production processes in-house. Manufacturing moved in 2025 to a factory in Shepherdsville, Kentucky.
