Sub-brands

  • Summit Series (The North Face) 2000

The North Face’s top-tier performance line for extreme environments and expedition use, developed around athlete testing and long-term product development. It is organized by high-intensity activities such as Snow, Climb, and Trail, and is positioned as the line where the brand’s technology and material development are implemented under the most demanding conditions. Its role is distinct from those of lifestyle-oriented derivative lines such as Red Box.

  • THE NORTH FACE Purple Label 2003

A collaboration line produced by nanamica as a derivative line of THE NORTH FACE for the Japanese market. It adapts the brand’s signature outdoor elements to designs and material choices for urban living, and is developed through Japan-specific distribution and planning. Its planning and operations are separate from the regular lines of the global parent company (under VF), and despite sharing an urban focus, it has a different origin from UNLIMITED (planned by Goldwin).

  • THE NORTH FACE UNLIMITED 2015

A functional clothing collection offered by Goldwin in Japan since Fall/Winter 2015, designed for urban commuting, business trips, and travel. It adapts THE NORTH FACE’s outdoor technologies to urban environments and is organized around functional concepts such as “DEPARTURE” (travel and business) and “SHELTER” (protection from sudden weather changes in the city). Whereas Purple Label is a “collaboration-derived offshoot” produced by nanamica, UNLIMITED is differentiated as a “proposal for urban functionality” led by Goldwin.

  • The North Face Black Series 2017

A premium-leaning capsule/collection line in which The North Face combines archive-derived elements with contemporary urban silhouettes and advanced materials. A “Black Series” release in the context of Urban Exploration was confirmed in 2017, and in 2020 it was announced and sold as a Black Series led by Tim Hamilton. Its positioning presupposes more experimental curation and limited availability than the regular core product range.

  • TNF™ Red Box Collection 2025

The North Face reinterprets design elements from the ’70s to the ’90s, including tags and details, in a lifestyle-oriented collection that emphasizes everyday layering centered on a relaxed fit. Officially offered on an ongoing basis as the “TNF™ Red Box Collection,” it is positioned for the U.S. market as an entry point to urban and streetwear, inspired by Purple Label. Its purpose is clearly distinct from that of core lines for extreme use, such as Summit Series.
