Overview

Nike Undercover Gyakusou (GYAKUSOU) was a performance running line launched in 2010 by Nike and Jun Takahashi, founder of UNDERCOVER and a designer. Combining Takahashi’s interest in long-distance running and functional design with Nike’s running technology, it offered apparel and footwear. Its name derives from Team GIRA (GYAKUSOU International Running Association), a Tokyo-based running team, and it pursued design innovation from runners’ perspectives and improved athletic performance. It was launched internationally as NikeLab GYAKUSOU and continued to release collections through 2021.

Nike x Undercover Gyakusou is a collaborative performance running line jointly developed by Nike and Jun Takahashi, the designer of UNDERCOVER, from 2010. It combined technologies such as Nike running shoes, Dri-FIT, lightweight materials, and water resistance with Takahashi’s experience as a runner and UNDERCOVER’s colors, graphics, and silhouettes. While Nike Running is generally structured around athletic performance and supporting athletes, Gyakusou serves as a pioneering NikeLab-associated collaborative line that clearly incorporates an individual designer’s perspective, at the intersection of functionality and fashion.
