Overview

sacai is a Japanese fashion brand founded in Tokyo in 1999 by designer Chitose Abe. It combines contrasting elements in a “hybrid” way, such as knitwear and woven fabrics, and sportswear and tailoring, reinterpreting patterns to create unexpected forms and silhouettes. Centered on “design built on the everyday,” it proposes a new standard that disrupts the basics while retaining elegance. It launched menswear in 2009 and has also gained international recognition.

Sub-brands

  • sacai gem 2006

A sacai sub-line first introduced as a limited capsule in 2006. At launch, it was offered in limited distribution through 10 Corso Como, Comme des Garçons-affiliated stores, and Dover Street Market. It has produced small-run offerings based on brand staples such as MA-1 jackets and denim, with special details including embroidery and paneling. In recent years, limited drops and capsules for Dover Street Market have also been released intermittently. Within the group, it is positioned to handle retailer-specific exclusive projects and commemorative limited releases.

  • sacai luck 2006

A diffusion line of sacai launched in 2006, centered on lingerie and homewear. It carried forward the main line’s “hybrid” approach, combining knitwear and woven fabrics, as well as sportswear and tailoring, and offered a wardrobe geared toward everyday wear through lightweight materials such as chiffon and silk and layered styling. In 2015, a temporary suspension of sacai luck was announced alongside the introduction of pre-collections, and since then deliveries have been reorganized on the main-line side. Within the group, it served to translate the main line’s experimentalism into everyday clothing.
