Overview

Speedo LZR Racer is a technical competition swimwear line announced on February 13, 2008, by Speedo, a sports brand originating in Australia. It was developed by Speedo’s Aqualab in collaboration with Italy’s Mectex and Australia’s Australian Institute of Sport, with testing and analysis support from NASA and others. Its design combines LZR Pulse fabric with compression panels to reduce water resistance and muscle vibration. At Beijing 2008, numerous world records were set in events in which athletes wore suits from the same family. Full-body suits were subsequently restricted following a review of international competition regulations, but the LZR name has continued to be used for models made to comply with regulations and featuring a textile construction.
