Overview
BIRKENSTOCK is a footwear brand whose origins as a family of shoemakers in Germany are documented as dating back to 1774. In 1902, orthopedic shoemaker Konrad Birkenstock developed a contoured insole, and in 1925 registered the “Fussbett” (footbed) trademark. With the anatomically correct footbed at its core, the brand offers sandals, shoes, insoles, and other products, and states its purpose as “enabling people to walk the way nature intended.”
Concept
Our purpose is to empower all people to walk the way nature intended.

BIRKENSTOCK Professional 1774
A line that adapts the comfort derived from BIRKENSTOCK footbeds for occupational uses such as healthcare, hospitality, kitchen work, and outdoor work. It is organized into Healthcare, Hospitality, and Utility categories and addresses requirements such as slip resistance, oil resistance, water resistance, ESD protection, and toe caps. Equipped with replaceable footbeds, it serves a practical segment that prioritizes long hours of wear on the job and safety, unlike the core sandal collections.

-
Papillio 1991
A derivative line for women built around BIRKENSTOCK’s original footbed, adding heels, platforms, and retro wedges. While incorporating trend colors and prints, mixed materials, and thick soles, it retains the same footbed as the main line as the basis for comfort. In contrast to the main line, which focuses on flats, it adds height and character to outfits.
