PERRY COLLECTION shoes to wear when you take your first step.
Concept
In 1853 and 1854 (Kaei 6 and 7), U.S. Navy Admiral Perry arrived in Japan in what is known as the arrival of the Black Ships. Perry pressed the Edo shogunate to open the country and conclude a treaty of amity, accelerating the transition toward the Meiji Restoration and the opening up of Japan. The government sought to strengthen its military and armaments, while ordinary people’s interest in novelty and fashion increased interest in military and Western-style clothing and footwear. Perry’s arrival prompted Japanese people to begin wearing shoes. PERRY COLLECTION shoes are intended for moments when the wearer is taking a first step.
