Yu Mei is a leather bag and accessories brand from New Zealand (Aotearoa), founded in 2015 by Wellington-born Jessie Wong. It began by making bags for everyday carry, including laptops, and develops bags, wallets, and other items as a “carrying system” through modular design. Its philosophy is grounded in the pillars of Regenerative Utility: starting with a need to establish a baseline of utility, and making products with regenerative materials sourced from the land. As part of its circularity initiatives, it also runs “Carried Again,” which extends products’ useful lives through repairs and refurbishment.
Concept
Yu Mei is founded on the pillars of Regenerative Utility, each design begins with a genuine need to inform a base level of utility and is made with regenerative materials from the land.
