abcense, based in Taipei, Taiwan, is a footwear brand founded in spring 2012 by fashion designer 潘国瑤 (Yoyo Pan) and industrial designer 王卓三 (Jhuosan Wang). Centered on women’s shoes, the brand also offers bags and accessories, blending the simplicity of industrial components with the beauty of traditional shoemaking. Its name derives from “absence,” and its design philosophy draws inspiration from the Eastern cultural concept of 留白 (leaving blank space), preserving room for wearers’ interpretation and self-expression. Its signature is geometric, sculptural forms and an approach that adds playfulness to minimalism. The brand has expanded internationally through department stores and select shops in Europe, the United States, and Asia.
