Overview

BENSIMON is a lifestyle brand founded in France in 1975 by Serge Bensimon and his younger brother, Yves Bensimon. Inspired by military surplus and vintage clothing, the brand is known for its “Tennis” sneakers, introduced in 1978 and made from dyed canvas, and offers ready-to-wear, bags, accessories, and home items. At its core is the idea of transforming unwanted vintage clothing and objects to rekindle desire and interest. In 1989, it opened a concept store in Paris that brought fashion and furniture together. The brand has developed through a sibling partnership, with Serge responsible for style and Yves for the commercial side.

Concept

The goal is to reignite desire and interest from secondhand items, objects no one wants anymore, by transforming them.

Surplus Bensimon is a menswear line developed within the BENSIMON brand family. The official history describes how Serge Bensimon worked with his brother Yves Bensimon to develop Bensimon Surplus, and the brand’s main introductions also present it as a menswear collection rooted in military surplus. Unlike the core lines for women and unisex wear, it was a sub-line positioned for men and based on military and workwear.

B.Team was an independent line launched by BENSIMON for teenagers. It was presented as “B.Team by Bensimon” and as BENSIMON’s brand for teens. While carrying forward the main line’s colorful elements rooted in travel and everyday life, it offered sizing, graphics, and sportswear-style items for younger customers. A spin-off line that extended BENSIMON’s world to the next generation of customers, it was a past offering that cannot be found in the current official lineup.
