OriginalFake began in 2006 in Minami-Aoyama, Tokyo, as a streetwear brand and shop created through a collaboration between graphic artist KAWS and Japanese toy maker MEDICOM TOY. In addition to apparel such as T-shirts and denim, and accessories, it also produced collectible toys. The brand and store closed on May 31, 2013.
