Overview

Sheep was a skate shoe sub-brand spun off from etnies, part of Sole Technology, in California, USA, in 1996. A team led by Pierre-André Senizergues launched it with the aim of creating simple, fun products for skateboarders, by skateboarders, and developed it as a lower-priced line. It became known for models that avoided animal-derived materials and for its team, which included Ed Templeton and Rick McCrank, and gained cult support in 1990s skate culture. The brand ceased operations after about two years. Some of its designs later reappeared in limited etnies capsules, but it has ended as an independent brand.

An environmentally conscious line that avoided animal-derived materials

Sheep was an all-synthetic line launched by etnies in 1996 that used no animal-derived materials. etnies describes it as a spin-off line that early on offered an option for skate shoes made without animal-derived materials. While the main etnies line pursued skate performance broadly without limiting its materials, Sheep was positioned specifically around a product philosophy of avoiding animal-derived materials. Industry media also confirms that Sole Technology later discontinued Sheep as part of a brand reorganization.
