TAO is a Japanese womenswear brand developed by Comme des Garçons. It began in 1981 as “tricot COMME des GARÇONS,” with Tao Kurihara taking charge of design in 2002. In Fall/Winter 2005, it launched “tao COMME des GARÇONS,” named after Kurihara, and ended in Spring/Summer 2011. Following the renaming of tricot, it continues today as TAO (renamed from 2021, and operating under the new name from Spring/Summer 2022). It presents collections centered on clothing and knitwear.
