Because Van Bommel was strongly associated with classic shoes, it was difficult to sell more fashion-forward footwear under the established brand name. In 1996, Frans van Bommel introduced a line named after his son Floris. It followed the 1980s “New Generation Classics” and was intended to foreground fashion more than Van Bommel’s primarily classic offering. In 2006, the Van Bommel logo was removed from its communications, and the line was developed as an independent brand. Today, it is positioned alongside Van Bommel, while sharing the same shoe-manufacturing business foundation.

A derivative line established as part of Van Bommel’s product diversification in the 1980s, responsible for fashion-forward shoes. It was initially marketed under the name “Manhattan by Van Bommel” and was renamed “New Generation Classics” for legal reasons. While Van Bommel focused primarily on classic shoes, the line served different fashion needs and broadened the company’s product offering at retail alongside its other diversification products. In 1996, Floris van Bommel was introduced as its successor, and the line came to an end.
