Overview

ASAHI BELTED is a Japanese footwear line by ASAHI Shoes, founded in 1892. The ASAHI brand launched in spring 2017, and BELTED was introduced with the autumn/winter line later that year. Inspired by manufacturing methods from the 1970s, its defining technique involves wrapping cotton herringbone tape around the shoe like a belt when bonding the leather upper to the rubber using the vulcanization process. The line includes leather and suede low-tops, high-tops, slip-ons, and other styles, all made in Japan.

ASAHI BELTED is a derivative line within ASAHI’s current lineup, bringing together shoes with belt construction. The line draws on a technique developed in the 1970s, when cotton herringbone tape was wrapped around leather uppers in a belt-like form to improve durability as they were bonded using the vulcanization method. The current official website includes the suede ASAHI 042 and the slip-on ASAHI 045 in the line. Whereas ASAHI DECK is centered on a deck-shoe last and a wave-pattern sole, ASAHI BELTED is characterized by tape construction around the upper and leather and suede materials, and is positioned to demonstrate the brand’s technical heritage through its manufacturing methods.
