Overview

ASAHI DECK is a Japanese deck shoe line developed under ASAHI, a brand of ASAHI SHOES, based in Kurume, Fukuoka Prefecture. ASAHI SHOES, the company behind ASAHI, was founded by Tokujirō Ishibashi in 1892, and development of this line began in 2016. Based on American-made deck shoes from the 1970s, it uses shoe lasts from that era to pursue the original silhouette of deck shoes. Its features include a wave-shaped outsole and vulcanized construction, and it is produced entirely at the Kurume factory.

Concept

Using the beautifully shaped shoe lasts created based on the deck shoes made in the United States in the 1970’s, we pursued the original silhouette of the deck shoes.

ASAHI DECK is a core deck-shoe line within the ASAHI brand family. Based on lasts used for deck shoes in America in the 1970s, it reconstructs the silhouettes of that era and uses an outsole with a wave-shaped cut, designed with grip on wet surfaces in mind. The current official website features ASAHI 041 and the slip-on-style ASAHI 040. Unlike ASAHI ATHLETIC’s athletic-shoe offerings and ASAHI BELTED’s belt construction, this line presents the brand’s deck-shoe roots most directly.
