Overview

Norman Hartnell is a British haute couture house founded in 1923 by designer Norman Bishop Hartnell in Mayfair, London. Its collections centered on evening dresses and ceremonial attire, and from the 1940s onward it served as a leading dressmaker to the British royal family, creating Elizabeth II’s wedding dress in 1947 and her coronation robes in 1953. The business continued after the founder’s death, but following a restructuring, the house closed in 1992, and the trademark was later passed to a corporate group.
