People Tree is a Japan-based brand that grew out of a fair-trade business launched in Tokyo by Safia Minney and others. It developed from the activities of the NGO Global Village, which began in 1991, and adopted the brand name People Tree in 2000. Its offerings focus on clothing and also include accessories, food, and miscellaneous goods. The brand works with producer organizations in Asia, Africa, and Latin America. It incorporates natural materials such as organic cotton and handcrafted work that draws on local traditional techniques, with the aim of fair trade and sustainable production. Official sales in Japan continue today.
