Overview

Pierre Cardin is a luxury brand founded in France in 1950 by designer Pierre Cardin. Initially known as a fashion house, it expanded into perfume and cosmetics in the 1960s, and into furniture and home decoration in 1968. From the 1970s onward, it accelerated its licensing activities, expanding the eponymous brand into multiple fields. It is currently operated by Rodrigo Basilicati-Cardin and upholds the experimentation, freedom, audacity and creativity of “Maison Cardin.”

Under Safilo’s licensing arrangement, this is a derivative line responsible for more sculptural experimentation within Pierre Cardin’s eyewear range. In official sales in 2025, limited, numbered models such as Evolution 10 and Evolution 11 Wave were offered, along with models designed by Rodrigo Basilicati Cardin. The line makes strong use of the brand’s geometric motifs, including circles and squares, foregrounding visual composition and exclusivity more than typical eyewear offerings.

The framework for a long-term collaboration in Pierre Cardin’s eyewear category under a global license with Safilo, continuing since the first collection in 1991. The 2025 renewal specified responsibility for the design, manufacture, and distribution of prescription frames and sunglasses, with an emphasis on optical frames. It is broadly deployed as the foundation of the brand’s eyewear business and serves as a vehicle for translating geometric motifs and contemporary design into eyewear. Within this framework, the Evolution line is positioned as a derivative proposal that places greater emphasis on exclusivity and sculptural form.
