made to be worn
Polo Western was a Western wear and denim line under Ralph Lauren, introduced by Ralph Lauren in the United States in 1979. Inspired by the practical clothing of the American West, it offered denim, apparel, and accessories. Its products included denim, Western blazers, roper boots, and rodeo shirts, and it used the slogan “made to be worn.” The line ran for a short period in 1978–79 before ending, and is regarded as one of Ralph Lauren’s early lines that led to its Western-inspired approach to clothing and, later, Double RL.

Polo Western was an early menswear denim and Western wear line developed by Ralph Lauren from 1978 to 1979. Unlike the preppy and classic sportswear of Polo Ralph Lauren, it presented the clothing culture of the American West as a distinct theme, centered on denim, Western shirts, leather vests, roper boots, and workwear-inspired details. Conceived around the same time as the women’s Ralph Lauren Western Wear, it was a separate brand from the later Double RL, while serving as a historical line that paved the way for Ralph Lauren’s Western, vintage, and utility-wear offerings.
