Overview

Saint Laurent Rive Gauche was founded in 1966 in Paris, France (21 rue de Tournon) by Yves Saint Laurent, Pierre Bergé, and others as the maison’s prêt-à-porter (ready-to-wear) division. It was conceived as an independent collection rather than a less expensive version of couture, and focused primarily on womenswear. It opened stores in New York in 1968 and London in 1969, and later also offered menswear. In 2012, the ready-to-wear division was renamed “Saint Laurent Paris.”

A historical line that led the maison’s development of ready-to-wear

Saint Laurent Rive Gauche was a ready-to-wear (RTW) line and boutique launched by Yves Sai

Saint Laurent Rive Gauche was a ready-to-wear (RTW) line and boutique launched by Yves Saint Laurent in Paris on September 26, 1966. It was established to systematize ready-to-wear separately from the couture business and extend it to younger people and a broader customer base. Following the opening of the first Paris store, the line expanded overseas. Its establishment and operation were later referenced in brand naming and rebranding, and it is a historical line name. Following the 2012 change in ready-to-wear naming, Rive Gauche is positioned as a historical line name.
