Overview

AUBERGE is a men’s casualwear brand launched in Japan in 2018 by designer Manabu Kobayashi. Centered on research into vintage clothing, particularly French pieces, and high-quality materials and construction by domestic artisans and textile-producing regions, the brand reinterprets past classics and staple garments as part of a contemporary wardrobe. Its name derives from 18th-century French inns where guests could enjoy meals and lodging. Through examining and testing historical production methods, it develops Japan-made luxury casualwear that brings new discoveries to everyday items.

Concept

The name for its work was chosen by likening its original approach to clothing design to an auberge where food, time, and space are enjoyed.
