BIG JOHN is a Japanese jeans brand originating in Kojima, Kurashiki City, Okayama Prefecture. It grew out of the sewing business started by founder Kotaro Ozaki in 1940 and launched as an original brand in 1967. The brand offers casual wear centered on jeans and introduced purely domestically produced jeans in 1973, with all fabric, accessories, branding, and sewing handled in Japan. It has contributed to the development of Japan’s denim industry. Guided by the principle “QUALITY COMES FIRST,” it offers series such as RARE JEANS, XXXX-EXTRA, and M3. Drawing on Kojima’s production base, it also presents its products overseas.

It is still treated as an independent brand name on its official website and continues to offer coveralls, painter pants, fatigue pants, and other items. Sharing BIG JOHN’s production background, it is a spin-off brand within the brand family specializing in the workwear field.

WILD DUCK is a product line developed by BIG JOHN that reworks vintage elements into modern workwear. It extends beyond denim to canvas and cut-and-sew items, and incorporates recycled materials such as recycled cotton and cotton waste. This distinguishes it from RARE, which centers on premium denim, and COMPLETE FREE, which emphasizes functionality. It is also connected to the philosophy of GREEN LABEL and is positioned as a line centered on material reuse and workwear expression.

BIG JOHN SL VINTAGE

A reissue line focused on recreating the archive

BIG JOHN SL VINTAGE is a reissue line that reinterprets for modern use the specifications

BIG JOHN SL VINTAGE is a reissue line that reinterprets for modern use the specifications and texture of the jeans BIG JOHN offered in the 1960s. It uses selvedge denim made on vintage shuttle looms, as well as yarn counts, processing, and silhouettes informed by that era, focusing on recreating the archive in ways distinct from the current standard BIG JOHN line. In contrast to RARE’s top-tier direction and WILD DUCK’s workwear direction, it serves to re-present the brand’s early denim culture.
