Overview

RARE is the flagship line introduced in 1983 by BIG JOHN, a Japanese denim brand based in Kojima, Kurashiki, Okayama Prefecture. Centered on Japanese craftsmanship, it offers high-quality jeans made with uneven-yarn denim woven on power looms, selvedge, and lockstitch construction. Guided by its principle, “Quality Comes First,” the line proposes “jeans to grow into,” whose changes over time can be enjoyed as they are worn. Since its first model, RARE has been a pioneer of Japan’s vintage denim culture, and its current offerings include models such as R008 and R009.

RARE is a premium line positioned as the highest-end and flagship offering within BIG JOHN. Unlike regular BIG JOHN products, it places strong emphasis on its manufacturing processes and materials, including the use of traditional looms and lockstitch sewing. While World Workers covers workwear and BRAPPERS focuses on womenswear, RARE is an upper-tier line within the parent brand that presents high-value denim bringing together Japanese craftsmanship.
