KATIM is a Japanese footwear brand launched for Spring/Summer 2016 by designer and creative director Eiko Kosaka. After gaining experience in production management, international sales, and as a design assistant at apparel brands in Japan and abroad, Kosaka studied German orthopedic shoemaking. The brand offers shoes made with lasts and patterns developed in-house based on data on Japanese feet. Guided by the brand philosophy of “the synergy of functional beauty and sculptural beauty,” it emphasizes consideration for the strain of walking, high-quality materials, and the handwork of skilled artisans. Its offerings include a ready-to-wear line and hand-sewn made-to-order shoes, with a focus on footwear that develops with wear over time.
