Maunaloa is a brand specializing in stage costumes for hula and Tahitian dance, originating from a Hawaiian Polynesian shop that opened at Ginza Mitsukoshi in Tokyo in 1972. Its beginnings are said to date to Hawaiian musicians bringing leis and clips back to Japan and opening a shop for hula items. In 2001, Maunaloa Ebisu Main Store was established. Its offerings include stage dresses, pāʻū skirts, accessories such as leis and headpieces, Hawaiian fabrics, and made-to-order costumes. The brand’s guiding phrase is “Everything for a dazzling stage,” with a commitment to carrying its work forward to the next generation.
