Overview

RAW Sustainable is a sustainable product line/program introduced in 2010 by G-STAR, founded by Jos van Tilburg in Amsterdam in 1989. It was created to expand the use of sustainable materials and initially comprised three lines: RAW Organic, RAW Recycled, and RAW Nettle. Today, the name is used to identify items made with materials such as organic cotton and recycled materials that contribute to reducing the environmental impact of the G-STAR RAW collection.

Concept

RAW Sustainable garments are made of materials that are sustainable and contribute towards minimizing the environmental impact of the G-Star RAW collection.

RAW Sustainable was G-STAR’s sustainable line, bringing together environmentally considerate materials and production methods. Official sustainability materials presented it as a program comprising multiple collections, including RAW Organic, RAW Recycled, and RAW Nettle, and clearly set out an approach to reducing environmental impact distinct from the regular product range. As sustainable materials and circular design are now integrated across G-STAR, RAW Sustainable is positioned less as an independent, permanent brand and more as a historical offshoot line that developed into a company-wide strategy.
