kolor
Basic information
Overview
kolor is a Japanese fashion brand founded in Tokyo in 2004 by designer Junichi Abe. Centered on menswear and womenswear, it reworks classic styles through mixed materials, bold color combinations, and intricate patternmaking, and is often described as creating a “comfortable sense of incongruity.” Its appeal lies in the balance between three-dimensional tailoring informed by Abe’s experience as a patternmaker and practicality incorporating sports elements. After presenting collections in Paris and developing the sub-label kolor BEACON, Taro Horiuchi took over design in 2025, ushering in a new chapter.

kolor BEACON 2013
kolor BEACON is a menswear-focused sub-line that emerged from kolor, led by Junichi Abe, and launched in the Spring/Summer 2013 season. It was introduced alongside runway activities in Paris to clarify a product-oriented focus on “things” that are not bound by the season. Rather than centering on a unified collection theme, it emphasizes the refinement of individual pieces. While carrying forward kolor’s use of color and techniques for combining different materials, it complements the main line through individual-item proposals and accessories.
