Overview

Pokémon (Pocket Monsters) is a Japanese-origin media-mix brand that began with video games. Satoshi Tajiri of Game Freak conceived the original idea, and the brand began its expansion with the Game Boy games Pokémon Red and Green, released on February 27, 1996. Official character designs for the early titles were created by Ken Sugimori and others. Centered on the game series, the brand spans a wide range of areas, including trading card games, video productions, apps, and merchandise. The Pokémon Company states in its corporate philosophy that it aims to enrich both the real and virtual worlds through Pokémon.

Established in 2019, it is Pokémon’s first official baby brand. Unlike Pokémon’s main activities, which focus on games and card games, it targets children from pregnancy through early childhood and their families, offering products and content centered on “Let’s gather our firsts” that accompany family life and children’s first experiences. Its offerings include toys, clothing, mealtime items, bedding, and picture books, extending Pokémon characters and their world into everyday goods, play, and read-aloud experiences for infants and young children. Compared with Pokémon’s games, video content, and cards, it is positioned as a family-oriented line that creates points of connection in the everyday lives of parents and children.
