Overview

ANACHRONORM Reading is a subline launched in 2011 by ANACHRONORM, a Japanese brand originating in Okayama. Under the direction of ANACHRONORM director Tomoki Tanushi, it created four fictional characters living in the 1950s and 1960s—“Jack,” “Neal,” “Allen,” and “William”—and developed clothing and items reflecting their different environments, stories, and wardrobes. Centered on denim, it used techniques involving materials, sewing, processing, aging, and remake, with a focus on creating products whose value grows over time, guided by the parent brand’s philosophy of “creating new vintage for the next era.”

ANACHRONORM Reading is a historical offshoot line that ANACHRONORM launched from Spring/Summer 2011. The line created items by imagining the lives and wardrobes of four fictional characters—Jack, Neal, Allen, and William—living in the 1950s and 1960s. While drawing on the brand’s processing and sewing techniques, it was distinguished by giving its clothes stories and character profiles. It was developed alongside ANACHRONORM Clothing as a line responsible for freer expression. In the current official brand introduction, it is presented as a line in the brand’s history, separate from the four current labels.
