Overview

Maison MIHARA YASUHIRO is a Japanese fashion brand founded in 1996 as a footwear brand by designer Yasuhiro Mihara. With footwear at its core, it offers menswear and womenswear, as well as bags and accessories. Concept

Founded in 1996 as a footwear brand, it applies ideas that are not bound by existing conventions and an in-depth approach to design not only to shoes, but also to clothing that is disciplined yet playful. Its designs continue to attract attention in Japan and abroad.

Sub-brands

  • MIHARAYASUHIRO DENIM 2011

Introduced in 2011 as the brand’s first new line, it specialized in denim and reproduced jackets and shirts that had been popular in the main line. By establishing denim as a distinct material-focused category, it organized the brand’s experimental approach into a casual wardrobe. As an early offshoot launched ahead of the other lines organized by use, it took on the material-focused role.

  • MIHARAYASUHIRO BUSINESS LINE 2014

Launched in 2014 as a new shoe line for business settings, this derivative translated the main collection’s signature elements into work shoes. It also incorporated the brand’s burnishing technique while offering designs for specific uses, distinct from the collection’s experimental footwear. It clearly defined the role of business shoes within the footwear offering and formed part of the early shoe derivatives that complemented more dress-oriented footwear.

  • MIHARAYASUHIRO Modified 2015

Launched in 2015, this new line foregrounded the idea of dismantling vintage pieces and secondhand clothing collected by Yasuhiro Mihara and reconstructing them by hand in the atelier team. Rather than simply extending the main line’s formal qualities, it reframed the experimental nature of MIHARA YASUHIRO within the context of remaking by editing the materials’ histories and their structures themselves. It is a structure-editing offshoot, distinct from purpose-specific lines such as denim and business shoes.

  • MYne 2016

Launched in 2015 as a new line of Maison MIHARA YASUHIRO, it inherited Mihara’s stylistic aesthetic while incorporating the sensibilities of a younger generation oriented toward streetwear. It continued to release collections for younger consumers, creating a separate channel for urban clothing apart from the main line. From Fall/Winter 2023, it changed its name to KAMIYA, transitioning to a lineage bearing the name of Koji Kamiya.

A street-oriented offshoot line for younger consumers.

  • MYne self 2016

A women's shoe line derived from MIHARA YASUHIRO in 2016, it was developed by a design team from the same lineage while foregrounding a policy of not using animal leather and a focus on comfort. It incorporated ease of wear and material texture into a basic look, and was positioned separately from the parent brand's primarily apparel-focused role as an independent offering of women's footwear. Within the MYne lineage, it developed as a branch specializing in shoes.

A derivative line specializing in women's shoes.

  • Nehanne MIHARA YASUHIRO 2016

A derivative line launched in 2016 under the direction of Yasuhiro Mihara and first presented for Spring/Summer 2017. Against a backdrop of renewed recognition of Japanese culture, it referenced materials such as hemp, used since the Jomon period, and the context of Kyoto’s Nishijin weaving, connecting traditional materials with contemporary streetwear. Including expressions inspired by Sharaku, it took a culture- and material-led position that foregrounded reinterpretations of context rather than the forms of the garments themselves.

A culture-oriented derivative line centered on the history of Japanese materials.

  • FIT MIHARA YASUHIRO 2017

Launched for Fall/Winter 2017–18 as a menswear offshoot line, it centered on Lightly Elegance and pared back decoration while distilling the brand’s strengths through silhouette, materials, and tailoring. Balancing dress, military, and casual elements, its first collection, 2017AW, also used rare yak materials and reactive-dyed denim to present a refined menswear image as an entry point distinct from the main line’s strong emphasis on reconstruction.

  • General Scale. 2021

Launched as a new line for Maison MIHARA YASUHIRO’s Spring/Summer 2021 collection, it reexamined sneakers from the soles and uppers to the sewing thread, using naturally derived and biodegradable materials. While carrying forward the main line’s sculptural qualities, it foregrounds environmental considerations and materials development, expanding the brand’s functional range alongside in・stru(men-tal). It is also handled independently in the current official store.

  • in・stru(men-tal). 2021

A capsule collection launched as Maison MIHARA YASUHIRO’s Spring/Summer 2021 line. As its name, drawn from the musical term “instrumental,” suggests, it strips back design to pursue fabric, silhouette, and comfort. Rather than directly carrying over the main line’s forms and treatments, it translates them into relaxed everyday wear. It is a practical line treated as a separate category alongside General Scale. on the official store.
